Fastest Way to Get an International Driving Permit in Washington

If you live in Washington State and need an International Driving Permit (IDP) quickly, you’ve probably realized that getting one is not as simple as it used to be. On June 27, 2025, all AAA offices in Washington permanently closed, which means you can no longer walk into a branch in Seattle, Spokane, or anywhere else in the state to get same-day service.

So what’s the fastest way to get an IDP now? Let’s go through your options.

AAA’s Online IDP Application (Cheaper, but Not the Fastest Option)

AAA now only provides IDPs in Washington through their online and mail-in application processes. For Washington drivers, here’s what that looks like:

• Processing time: If you apply online, AAA currently offers just one option, which takes 5 business days to process your IDP after you apply before they ship it to you.

• Shipping time: AAA gives two shipping options, and the fastest one is USPS Priority Mail, which they estimate takes 1–3 business days.

• No rush options available: If you need your IDP in less than 8 business days, AAA  probably is not the right option for you

Fast IDP: The Quickest Way to Get an IDP in Washington
