Why Did AAA Stop Offering In-Person IDPs in Washington?

Until recently, AAA offices across Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, and other cities were the go-to places to walk in and leave with an IDP the same day. Unfortunately, all AAA offices in Washington closed their in-person services on June 27, 2025.

That means you can’t just stop by a local branch anymore. The only option AAA offers now is through their online or mail-in applications.

• Shipping time: Add a few more days for return mail. The fastest option they offer is USPS priority mail, which they show as 1-3 business days on their website.

AATA (the American Automobile Touring Alliance) is the other company that is authorized to issue IDPs in the US, and they have a similar timeline for delivering IDPs as AAA.
