The cost of an International Driving Permit (IDP) from AAA varies depending on how you get it. Below we’ll outline the three main ways to get an IDP and how much they cost:
In person at AAA – $30-35 – same day: This is the lowest cost way to get an IDP if you’re able to make it to a AAA branch in person. The IDP itself costs $20, and the AAA branch will charge you an additional $10-15 for the passport-style photos that are required to go in the IDP booklet.
Through Fast IDP – $74-223 – 1-5+ days: Fast IDP is a third-party expediter of IDPs, offering the fastest service for people who need an IDP quickly without going to AAA in person. Our employees will take your IDP application to AAA on your behalf to get you an IDP. Costs include the $20 IDP fee paid to AAA, shipping ($0-78), processing ($49-109), and tax. Fast IDP is your next fastest option after going to AAA in person.
Online with AAA – $40-250+ – ~8-~12+ days: This option also includes a $20 IDP booklet fee, a $10 online photo fee, and a shipping cost that varies from $9-220+ depending on the destination and speed of shipping. This option is slower than Fast IDP because processing takes 5 business days after the application is submitted before the IDP booklet is shipped.
Beware of scam IDPs
Whatever you do, don’t give your money or personal information to a scam company that advertises "digital" IDPs or is not working with AAA-issued IDPs. The US government has authorized AAA as the sole issuer of IDPs in the United States, so make sure you either get an IDP directly from AAA or from an expediter like Fast IDP that gets IDPs from AAA.
